The Kernel Neomycin ELISA Kit is a competitive enzyme immunoassay for the quantitative analysis of Neomycin with no cross-reactivities (< 0.1%) towards other aminoglycosides (gentamicin, kanamycin, streptomycin, dihydrostreptomycin, sisomycin, tobramycin and amakizin). In shrimp, fish, meat, liver and kidney samples the ELISA kit has a detection limit of 15 ppb. This kit can also be used to detect neomycin in cell lysates and urine. 


Neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic. All the aminoglycosides are potentially toxic compounds causing significant damage in vestibular and auditory functions in human and animals. Nevertheless, they are used in practice because of their antibacterial and antifungal activities so they need to be monitored in our food products. The European Commission established a neomycin Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) of 500 ppb and the US has a MRL of 1200 ppb for meat.
