African swine fever ELISA Test

African swine fever ELISA Test
  • product details

The African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV), a DNA virus of the Asfarviridae family, is the causative agent of African Swine Fever (ASF), a highly contagious haemorrhagic disease in domestic pigs and wild boars, warthogs, bush pigs and giant forest hog. The infections are generally asymptomatic in African wild suids (wild boars, warthogs, bush pigs and giant forest hog) which are thought to act as reservoirs for the virus. The symptoms associated with ASF closely resemble those of Classical Swine Fever, and the two may be indistinguishable in an outbreak.

Kernel ASFV Antibody Test Kit. The method is based on a competitive ELISA assay.

The diagnostic test uses microtiter plates that have wells coated with P32 ASFV recombinant protein. Any anti-ASFV antibodies present in the sample will bind to the P32 protein. After a subsequent wash step, secondary, HRP-conjugate is added. It binds to the remaining free P32 epitopes. In case of presence of ASFV antibodies in tested serum samples, HRP-conjugate will be blocked from binding. Following another wash step, any bound Conjugate is revealed using a TMB substrate, which produces color in presence of HRP. A microplate reader is used to measure an optical density of the color produced. The amount of color generated is inversely proportional to the amount of specific anti-ASFV antibodies in the animal serum.
